| First Pinball Faith Meeting - 1999 |
"Pinball Faith", billed as being an Inagural meeting for fanatics enthusists, and followers of pinball, attracted a congregation of over thirty invites to the Bumper Action showroom. Everything was complimentary, a row of pinballs lined up ranging from Top Score, Vulcan, Playboy, Funhouse, Addams Family and X Files all on free play and awaiting punishment. For those who didn't go, and think so far this sounds ok, I can tell you the night just got better and better! Three lovely bunny girls started circulating the crowd serving beer, wine soft drink, chicken strips, fancy dips with cracker and delicious club sandwiches. This all just kept coming and went down a treat! Eight O'Clock saw the Jukebox unplugged as the movie "Tommy" on a large screen at the end of the pinball row. But more importantly eight O'Clock saw the start of the sudden death knockout Pinball Competition. The rules were simple: Find the partner you were drawn against, nominate a machine you both agree on, and try your luck.
The competition was an excellent way of mixing the crowd and getting people talking. It was refreshing to meet different people who were interested in Pinny! You don't have to have a large Pinball collection to be a good pinball player or enjoy the hobby. Most people there owned one or two machines. The mood was Friendly and Fun! The second round saw my defeat on Funhouse. It wasn't that "Rudy" wasn't happy with me, but the bunny girls passed too often with the drinks tray. Thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it! The smash up scene in Tommy put the brakes on play, as a lot of people had never seen the movie before, (and I bet never wish to again) Congratulations to Joe who won a copy of Pinball an Illustrated History. With the movie over, the jukebox got cranked back up, some interesting cross handed games were played. (Right hand on left flipper button, left hand on right flipper button). This technique proved quite tricky for those of us not driving home that night?! Vulcan was the only casualty of the night, with all machines playing well. The night ended with a tour of all the machines upstairs awaiting auction.
